Ceremonial Ground Breaking for Harriet's Haven for Pets

Ceremonial groundbreaking with pooper scoopers for Harriet's Haven

On July 17, Tubman celebrated the upcoming opening of Harriet's Haven for Pets by holding a ceremonial groundbreaking event, complete with pooper scoopers, and all. Harriet's Haven will be one of the first pet-friendly domestic violence shelters in the Twin Cities, providing a safe space for humans and pets alike. Providing this safe space removes barriers to safety, for people experiencing violence.

Nearly 50% of domestic violence victim-survivors delay leaving because of fear for their pet's safety and almost 25% return to an abusive situation.

Located at Harriet Tubman Center East in Maplewood, Harriet’s Haven for Pets will open in 2025 as a full-service pet refuge that will be able to house up to eight dogs and eight cats, while their owners seek housing for themselves or other temporary care for pets.
